  The Legacy

When humans die, they make a will

To leave their homes and all they have to those they love.

I, too, would make a will if I could write.

To some poor wistful, lonely stray

 I leave my happy home,

My dish, my cosy bed, my cushioned chair, my toy.

The well loved lap, the gentle stroking hand, the loving voice,

The place I made in someone's heart,

The love that at the last could help me to a peaceful painless end

Held in loving arms.

If I should die, Oh do not say,

"No more a pet I'll have,

to grieve me by it's loss"

Seek out some lonely, unloved dog .

And give my place to them.

This is the legacy I leave behind -

'tis all I have to give.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME  AND   ZEPHYR

Zephyr gave me so much pleasure, there was never a moment I wasn't proud of him. From an early age Zep would come fishing with me, we would go and live by the bank side carp fishing for 3 or 4 days at a time, on an 800 acre site, so there was never any need for him to be on a lead, (this is where he learnt most of his tracking skills). The bond between us was unbelievable, total respect for each other.

Zep made many friends in the time we spent away together, Ritchie, Pete, keith, Paul (the farmer) and Dougie just to name but a few. Dont get me wrong he was not perfect, but then who is. He was a full on male rott who epitomised all that a male rott should be. I truly believe he would have laid down his life for me - Zep just did not know fear, he was highly trained and loved to play. He was not my first rottweiler, or my last, but he was all that I ever wanted in the breed.

Because Zep gave me so much pleasure, and I had helped rescue a little bit, I decided to put something back into the breed I admire so much

(I dont or ever have bred a dog, I leave that to those who have the aptitude to do so) hence my involvement in the help and rescue of this breed of ours. I have to thank Mags my other-half, without her support, and Barney's and now Spuds understanding I couldn't do it. I truly believe in the meaning of WELFARE. I also believe there is a responsibility that goes along with rescue dogs, and from a rescue organisation's point of view THAT IS FOR LIFE as if we dont who will?. Amongst other things we foster dogs. This is how we came to adopt Barney, who we are so proud of, but thats another story. So to those who know me through rescue, I hope this goes a little way to explain why I do what I do for the dogs, its in the memory of my beloved Zephyr, who to me was the ultimate friend, fishing buddie and epitomised what a rottweiler should be, and had the chance that so many dogs never have.

Since I have been involved in rescue I have found that sometimes there have been occasions when an individual dog needs help and for whatever reasons other organisations won't help. So I have found myself helping these dogs out, and with help from a few like minded friends, I run ZEPTHEDEP ROTTWEILER RESCUE, a rescue just to help these less fortunate dogs out.
